Cooks Butte Park is a 46-acre natural area located in the Palisades neighborhood of Lake Oswego. A popular park, Cooks Butte features numerous hiking trails, many of which were ‘volunteer’ trails on steep slopes. Project goals included relocating trails to address erosion problems, reviewing neighborhood access points and improving the hiking experience. Two public meetings were held with neighbors to explain the project and gather input. Marianne Zarkin provided trail planning and public involvement services in the creation of a trail master plan that will guide trail development.
